Through the years, we've taken a few unsuccessful swings at this song. Finally - with John Byrne's "coaching advice" to keep the floaty quality of John Lennon's "Dream Number 9" in mind as we worked - we've come close enough with this version. An obvious tip-of-the-hat to the rich and crisp acoustic/electric guitar mix of the Byrds/Beatles/Petty school, w/ myself on acoustic (fingerpicked six-string and strummed twelve-string), James Monaldi on the crunchy electric and the afore-mentioned JB on "Slide Number 9" (and the background vocal).....and Wade and Mark keep it groovin' along, I wanted it to have that loose, early '70's Rod Stewart/Faces vibe. Some reviewer years ago described that particular sort of Brit-romp as sounding like "....the drummer has one arm draped around your shoulder." I always loved that line.......
